01/24/20202 - Meatballs?

Today my kids are watching Cloudy with a chance of Meatballs 2. And it made me think.
Movies have 3 themes.
1. Sappy country music song theme (loses girl, pets dog, driving in the truck in the rain, fights for girl, wins back girls live and lives forever with girl well until next movie).
2. Kick butt hero theme (someone stands up for what is right and fights evil becomes an idol).
3. Starts happy, movie character idolizes someone, character realizes 1/2 way through the movie that their idol is evil and they were deceived. Character must fight past idol to the end.
Can we relate to any of these themes? Each theme has someone who has consumed their life to the point of near destruction. Can anyone relate? Have you idolized someone? Who or what consumes your heart? Who or what have you turned into an idol?
Historically in the Old Testament many times an idol was setup, and it was eventually toppled over and destroyed. Idols will fall. Men will fall. Women will fall. Even a superhero can turn into an idolized hero. The only sure thing to put 1st in your life is God. Idoltry = Bondage. Pastor, preacher, teacher, and friend dont allow your God given talents to turn you into an idol in someone elses eyes. We are called to help others, not be their foundation or stumbling stone. Push them toward God, not to be always hiding in your shadow. Always stay humble and reflect praise back for God's glory and His alone. Anytime we elevate ourselves we will fall, only Christ and Jesus Christ alone should be elevated. Lift up God only!!!!
Flint Lockwood: you were my idol, I looked up to you.
Chester: oh dear young lockwood, I was just using you.
Is your idol using you to destroy your walk with God? Anything you long for more than God and fill your heart with is an idol. Break free from idoltry strongholds.
Galatians 5:1,13-26 KJV
Stand fast therefore in the liberty wherewith Christ hath made us free, and be not entangled again with the yoke of bondage. [13] For, brethren, ye have been called unto liberty; only use not liberty for an occasion to the flesh, but by love serve one another. [14] For all the law is fulfilled in one word, even in this; Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. [15] But if ye bite and devour one another, take heed that ye be not consumed one of another. [16] This I say then, Walk in the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfil the lust of the flesh. [17] For the flesh lusteth against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh: and these are contrary the one to the other: so that ye cannot do the things that ye would. [18] But if ye be led of the Spirit, ye are not under the law. [19] Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are these ; Adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness, [20] Idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, variance, emulations, wrath, strife, seditions, heresies, [21] Envyings, murders, drunkenness, revellings, and such like: of the which I tell you before, as I have also told you in time past, that they which do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God. [22] But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, [23] Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law. [24] And they that are Christ's have crucified the flesh with the affections and lusts. [25] If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit. [26] Let us not be desirous of vain glory, provoking one another, envying one another.
